Journalist, writer and media guru
BA Communication (Journalism)
Content strategist and editor extraordinaire
In 2003, Katrice met with her journalism professor to inform him of her plans to drop out of her degree and go back to full-time dental nursing.
"If I help you get work as a writer, will you stick with this?" he asked. "You have too much talent to walk away."
With that one conversation, the entire course of Katrice's life changed in an instant.
Starting out as a community newspaper journalist and rapidly gaining experience writing copy and content for magazines as well, Katrice developed a reputation as an exceptional and honest writer.
Her ability to flick between creative copy full of flair and personality, to corporate, and professional writing, combined with her outstanding interpersonal skills, has secured her many roles in the media industry since completing her Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) in 2006.
One highlight of Katrice's career was when she was a Senior Press Officer for the United Kingdom’s medicine regulator.
In this position, Katrice negotiated, created, and implemented media handling strategies involving the Metropolitan Police, INTERPOL, World Customs Organisation, UK Border Agency and more than 80 countries that were simultaneously involved in an international anti-counterfeit medicine campaign. The result was extensive international coverage across all media platforms.
Katrice's experience is vast and ranges from newspapers and magazines, to 'behind the scenes' assistance for multiple prime-time television productions including:
· Embarrassing Bodies (Channel 4)
· Fake Britain (BBC One)
· Panorama (BBC).
Always looking for ways to further develop her skill-set and knowledge, Katrice is in the process of completing a Bachelor of Law (LLB), with an interest in legal history and theory.
Katrice is a confident, people person, with a natural gift for storytelling. Turning the mundane into the fascinating, and the technical into an easy-read is a skill that can’t be taught – and yet Katrice somehow manages to make it look easy.
From an early age, the English language and all its nuances captivated Paula, so naturally she went on to study English – at the University of Cape Town – with the intention of becoming a teacher.
However, during her studies, Paula migrated to Australia where her flair for writing along with her developing programming skills saw her career take a completely new direction.
For more than 25 years Paula has brought this combination of writing, editing and website development expertise to the corporate world both in state and local government, as well as the private sector.
With a primary focus on writing for the web, her capabilities go way beyond, encompassing a range of communication channels, including newsletters, media releases, technical and report writing, as well as editing academic theses and manuscripts.
Throughout her career Paula has continued to advance her skills and has undertaken numerous courses including Writing Plain English and User Experience (UX) Design. She is also a certified editor.
In her spare time, yes, you guessed it, Paula loves to write! She has won several writing competitions, one of which led to a story she wrote being published in a book of short stories for children.
Her other passions are reading (of course), gardening, yoga and spending time with family and friends. She is currently working on her first novel.
Paula is the quintessential professional with a strong work ethic and is meticulous to a fault. However, she has a mischievous sense of humour and is a real team player. For these reasons (and many more), Paula makes an invaluable addition to Write Communication.
